- Tucson is the second largest city in Arizona. It is located in Pima
county, southeast Arizona; 110 miles south of Phoenix and 65 miles
north of the Mexican border. The Tucson basin is a gently sloping
plain between 2,000 and 3,000 feet in elevation. It is ringed by
eight mountain ranges. The highest of these are the Santa Rita,
Santa Catalina and Rincon ranges, all of which reach elevations
above 8,000 feet. Pima County includes the second largest Indian
reservation in the country, huge open pit copper mines, and nature
preserves ranging from prickly deserts to mountain evergreen
forests.

Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
This world famous museum is located just west of the city. It has
been named one of America's 10 best zoos by Parade magazine. The New
York Times called it "the most distinctive zoo in the United

A non-profit research and education affiliate of Columbia University

Sonoran Sea Aquarium
Proposed project to "bring the sea to the desert" will feature
marine life from the nearby Gulf of California and the Colorado
River. The Education Outreach program, which made its debut in
January 1996, is constantly active, visiting school after school
while reaching the community at large by attending the Tucson area’s
largest public events.
